SARAJEVO, December 19 (FENA) - The Association Mine Detection Dog Training Center (MDDC) in Bosnia and Herzegovina is ending 2022 with several successfully implemented projects.

Marija Trlin, the head of projects to help mine victims in this center, said in an interview with FENA that these are primarily projects to clear mine-suspected areas in the municipalities of Sanski Most, Pale-Prača and Bihać, with a total area of four million square meters.

According to her, that project was financed by the United States of America, their long-term donor in the field of mine action.

In addition, they continued projects to help mine victims, which were also financed by the United States of America through the Children Against Mines project, as well as a project financed by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, through the Embassy in Sarajevo, where they helped 16 victims in the last three months.

She noted that a few days ago they also had a solemn ceremony, where the ambassador of Germany hosted all the beneficiaries of this project and got to know their stories.

Trlin states that the Dog Training Center will continue to be active in this area, because "our country will be free of mines, but mine victims will need our help for a long time."

"This is exactly why an organization like ours, and numerous other organizations that deal with helping mine victims, are at their disposal, to connect them with donors, to provide them with quality prostheses. We believe that mobility and a life without pain is crucial for every person to be a productive member of our society and community," said Trlin.

She pointed out that 16 landmine victims were helped by the Federal Republic of Germany this year, adding that it was about prostheses and additional parts to the prostheses, such as silicone liners, which are extremely expensive, while the United States of America continues its long-standing assistance to mine victims and helps each year from 15 to 20 mine victims through the Children Against Mines project.

Trlin says that this year there are a total of 36 high-quality prostheses.

"What we have been practicing lately is that we combine all the funds that each victim, each person, the beneficiary of aid has from the state through various health institutes with donor funds, so that we use absolutely all available financial resources so that a person can get a prosthesis that otherwise wouldn't be able to afford it," explained Trlin.

Trlin added that, since 2014, the United States of America has been continuously helping mine victims and the demining process.

"We started working with Germany last year and we already have some indications that it could continue. We are aware that today there are many other hotspots in the world, that the economic situation is difficult, that each of these donor countries has its own internal problems and needs of the population, and we are grateful that they continue to understand us and allocate funds for these projects," Trlin said.
