SARAJEVO, May 10 (FENA) - Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany Thomas Fitschen signed another contract today with the director of the organization "Mine Detection Dog Center" (MDDC), Nermin Hadžimujagić. Accordingly, FR Germany makes available additional funds in the amount of 95,000 euros for victims of landmines in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The funds made available by Germany will be used to enable mine victims to lead lives free of hardship and pain, and at the same time to enable them to have jobs.

To this end, 19 landmine victims will be assisted with state-of-the-art leg prostheses this year.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is still one of the countries most affected by landmines in the world. Although 27 years have passed since the end of the war, serious or even fatal human injuries from landmines still occur.

The total number of mine victims in Bosnia and Herzegovina, according to the estimates of the competent state body "Mining Removal Center in Bosnia and Herzegovina" BHMAC, is currently reduced to about 8,000, of which approximately 1,665 are counted as post-war victims.

However, increased education of citizens about the dangers and progressive mine removal, fortunately, contributed to the fact that the annual number of newly injured people dropped significantly.

So far, Germany has made available around 900,000 euros in Bosnia and Herzegovina for the rehabilitation of mine victims, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bosnia and Herzegovina announced.
