SARAJEVO, April 4 (FENA) – Project manager for mine assistance at the Mine Detection Dog Training Center in BiH (MDDC) Marija Trlin, on the occasion of the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, said that the Center is active not only in demining, but also in helping mine victims because, as she says, the problem of mine victims will remain for decades after the demining process.
She drew attention to the problems that mine victims have and everything that they lack.
“Here we can look at the problem of employment of mine victims, their social rights, so MDDC strives to be active in this area,” said Trlin in a statement for FENA, adding that the Center is active all year round, but wants to turn attention to the problem of mine victims on this occasion.
Although the demining process is going well and new methods have accelerated it considerably, she believes that "we are still dealing with the problems of mine victims".
She reminded that a project financed by the Federal Republic of Germany was completed in December 2021, during which 60 high-quality prosthetic legs were made for 55 mine victims.
“We are extremely satisfied with this project and we hope to continue this project and cooperation with the German Government. We also completed the CHAMPS project, i.e. we provided 20 prosthetic legs for mine victims from BiH through a donation from the United States, in cooperation with the Marshall Legacy Institute,” said Trlin.
The International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, which is celebrated on April 4, is an opportunity to highlight this problem that still exists in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
