SARAJEVO, September 29 (FENA) - There will be no vote on the election of the new chief prosecutor of the State Prosecutor's Office, although it was announced as one of the items of the session of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC), and instead of the appointment, the members will vote on the possible cancellation of the competition, confirmed on Wednesday for BIRN BiH Halil Lagumdžija, president of the Council.

According to Lagumdžija, there will be no appointment of the chief prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH today due to the decision of the Subcommittee not to propose any of the candidates, and that decision will be considered in the continuation of the session of the HJPC.

"The decision will be discussed, if the Council takes the opposite position, the majority, then, according to some procedure, the Subcommittee could take a position in accordance with the Council's decision and propose [candidates]. But that will happen at the next session. There can be no appointment today, only an initial discussion about the position of the Subcommittee," explained Lagumdžija for the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIRN BiH).

According to him, this decision of the Subcommittee "comes because it was considered that it was not good to go into the procedure with one candidate". As he said, this will be a matter decided upon by all members of the HJPC on Thursday.

Previously, Milanko Kajganić, Diana Kajmaković, Miroslav Janjić and Seid Marušić ran for chief prosecutor.

The United States of America (USA) imposed sanctions against Diana Kajmaković, a state prosecutor and a candidate for the position of the chief prosecutor, explaining that they consider her responsible for corruption or complicity in corruption, and undermining democratic processes or institutions in the Western Balkans.
