SARAJEVO, April 10 (FENA) - Equal access to justice is one of the basic human rights, which is why the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina advocates for its respect, especially in the context of those categories of society that are exposed to any form of discrimination.

International Roma Day is marked on April 8 and serves as a reminder of the necessity of ensuring better access to the realization of their social, economic and cultural rights, and the right to equal access to justice.

Roma people, as the most threatened minority in BiH, still face violations of basic rights, which is why the HJPC BiH, as a regulatory judicial body, undertakes numerous activities to prevent any form of discrimination.

In this sense, the HJPC BiH recognized the importance of a more systematic approach to court cases related to discrimination, primarily through the improvement of the database on court cases of this type, but also a uniform practice in the approach to their resolution.

The HJPC BiH, in cooperation with the OSCE Mission to BiH, amended the codebook for cases of discrimination, in order to enable a comprehensive collection of data on the forms, types and bases of discrimination in the BiH judiciary, which will further enable the adoption of measures for future action. The prerequisites for the comprehensive collection of data on cases of discrimination were created at the beginning of 2023, when the training cycle on the use of the updated codebook of the CMS system for discrimination procedures, intended for judges and registrars, was completed.

The HJPC BiH is currently in the process of creating prerequisites for the comprehensive collection of data on hate crimes, in order to define measures that will lead to improvement in this area as well, the HJPC announced.
