BANJA LUKA, July 18 (FENA) - The National Assembly of the RS, today among other items, considers the Bill on Amendments to the Criminal Code of the RS, which criminalizes defamation, at a session that has begun.

At the end of March, the National Assembly of the RS adopted the draft of this law, which was then sent to public discussion for 60 days.

An MP Maja Dragojević-Stojić said that yesterday they submitted a proposal to the procedure to withdraw the item from the agenda concerning the amendment of the Criminal Code when it comes to defamation and freedom of speech in general.

"Unfortunately, this was not supported by the ruling parties at the Collegium this morning, and only the SDS MP, the head of the Club of the Party of Democratic Progress and Nebojša Vukanović voted for removing that item. We considered that this has absolutely no basis to be in today's assembly and in general in the criminal code as this goes against all international conventions on media freedoms and human rights," stated Dragojević-Stojić.
