SARAJEVO, July 28 (FENA) - The World Health Organization (WHO), the Regional Office for Europe, has secured a new donation of protective medical equipment for BiH, which was handed over to the BiH Ministry of Civil Affairs (MCP) on Monday.

This ministry and the World Health Organization have been cooperating very successfully since the beginning of the pandemic, as the Minister of Civil Affairs of BiH Ankica Gudeljević said, it is just a continuation of that cooperation and an expression of both sides' determination to help BiH residents in the best manner.

“The help that the World Health Organization has so far given to BiH citizens, health professionals and others in need is very important for overcoming this acute health problem in BiH, but also the whole world,” said Gudeljević, expressing gratitude to WHO.

The UN Resident Coordinator in BiH Ingrid Macdonald also stressed the good cooperation with the Ministry, not only when it comes to health, but also education and other areas.

“As far as healthcare is concerned, we have been cooperating since the very beginning of the pandemic and I must emphasize that now the infection has worsened. What we believe is that there should be a focus on testing, monitoring and that there must be more support. At the very beginning, BiH was the leader when it comes to measures with a low level of infection, which is unfortunately no longer the case now,” said Macdonald.

The current crisis is very challenging and every country is facing it, as well as BiH.

She emphasized that BiH now has the opportunity to find the right balance between its public health protection and the economy.

The donation handed to the Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH by the Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) Office in BiH, Victor Olsavszky, consists of 1,000 visors and 20,000 protective masks.

Olsavszky appealed to the citizens to adhere to the health protection recommendations, i.e., hygienic-epidemiological measures, and to the authorities to monitor the contacts because that is one of the ways in which things can be improved.
