SARAJEVO, January 27 (FENA) - Vice-President of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Melika Mahmutbegović issued a press release today commemorating International Holocaust Remembrance Day, recalling the grave consequences of the greatest genocide in history, warning that "evil never stands still and that it is our human obligation to stop it from rising."
“Today, on the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi concentration camp, we pay special tribute to all the victims of the Nazi regime and their collaborators, and extend our condolences to the families of the victims, especially those from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Sarajevo. These innocent people were killed during one of the darkest pages in all of human history, simply because they were considered 'other and different'” stressed Mahmutbegović.
At the same time, she stated that by commemorating the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, January 27, we recall the fact that during the Second World War, one-third of the total Jewish population - six million people - were killed, which is without a doubt the largest genocide in history. "But we also remember the victims of Srebrenica genocide and all of Bosnia and Herzegovina genocide, even though the message in 1945 was for that evil never to happen again!”
“The Holocaust also is a reminder that evil never stands still and that it is our human obligation to stop its rising by always talking about it responsibly, warning it over and over again, opposing all forms of relativization and denial,” warned the FBiH Vice-President Mahmutbegović.
