BIHAĆ, February 27 (FENA) - Head of the European Union Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina Lars-Gunnar Wigemark opened today a newly built building of the Bihać Cantonal Court, whose construction was for the most part funded by the European Union.
“This building has been built to serve the needs of the citizens of the Una-Sana Canton, in order to have a better and stronger sense of the rule of law, and more efficient judiciary. Of course, for the people who will work here it is not enough just to have a new building, which is why we have expanded our assistance to modernization of the complete equipment. We are doing all this with the aim of improving the transparency and efficiency of the courts,” said Wigemark.
The European Union has allocated about three million KM for the project of the construction of the Cantonal Court building in Bihać, while the Una-Sana Canton Government (USC) has invested the amount of one and a half million KM.
The project is part of a wider EU assistance package for the rehabilitation of buildings of courts and prosecution offices, in support of strengthening the rule of law in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Given that my colleagues are quality people and highly capable, and now that we have the European standard of working conditions, I hope that USC citizens from now on will be able to exercise their rights within reasonable deadlines. We have to be ambitious and say that this is our goal for this year," said Fata Nadarević, President of the Bihać Cantonal Court.
Head of the EU Delegation to BiH Lars-Gunnar Wigemark also met today with the USC Prime Minister Mustafa Ružnić and Bihać Mayor Šuhret Fazlić to discuss the situation with migrants and refugees that are currently accommodated in the canton.
