SARAJEVO, June 19 (FENA) - The Center for Civil Society Promotion (CPCD) on the occasion of the completion of the project "Think Nature!" which lasted 4.5 years, organized a conference "Who will think about nature now?" in Sarajevo.
The "Think Nature!" project is implemented by CPCD and financially supported by Sweden in the amount of 4.5 million KM. The project aims to increase the influence of civil society in environmental protection in BiH through networking of civil society organizations, institutions, experts, schools, media and young people for joint, synchronized and strong action at the local level.
FBiH Minister of Environment and Tourism Nasiha Pozder said that the name of today's meeting is provocative, but that she believes "it is the only way to awaken everyone's interest and the will to get involved and start not only thinking but also acting to preserve what we have - nature and the environment".
''The importance of this project is the participation of the non-governmental sector, civil society and the involvement of this ministry from the beginning. What we are currently doing in the ministry are regular meetings of this type. The significance of this project is multifaceted, perhaps one of the most significant is that through this project they helped us to get some significant laws back into the procedure, such as amendments to the law on nature,'' said Pozder.
She also emphasized the importance of maintaining eco-schools which are organized through this program and that it is important to entrust young people with taking care of nature.
Director of CPCD, Aida Daguda, said that the conference is an opportunity to reflect on the achievements made in strengthening the role and influence of civil society organizations in environmental protection and to jointly consider ideas for their further development based on the project they realized together.
''We named the conference that way because it is very important for everyone to understand that everyone's role is to think about nature. Every citizen must think about their environment and what they leave behind for future generations, but also non-governmental organizations, and the media, always need to think about nature, as does our country. Perhaps the biggest message goes to our institutions because they also have to show by their behavior that they think more about nature,'' said Daguda.
