SARAJEVO, July 20 (FENA) - The Commission for the Implementation of the Impeachment Procedure is making final preparations before the referendum for the impeachment of the Mayor of Stari Grad Municipality, Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, which will be held on Sunday, July 23.
According to the President of the Commission, Mirza Imamović, ballots and accompanying material have been printed, through which citizens will decide whether they are "for" or "against" the impeachment of the municipal mayor. Ballots are expected to be delivered on Friday morning.
"Citizens of the Stari Grad Municipality will be able to vote at 46 polling stations on Sunday, and 36,193 voters have the right to vote in the process of recalling the municipal mayor. Four mobile teams were formed for 48 registered persons, and 587 were registered to vote by mail," Imamović told FENA.
Polling stations open at 08:00 and close at 19:00. The members of the electoral commissions, five regular and five alternates, count the ballots, and after that they will submit the results to the municipal Commission for the implementation of the recall procedure, as well as the entire material.
The first results are expected seven hours after the closing of the polling stations, and the second results the next day until 7:00 p.m., when the votes received via mobile teams, absentee voting, will be counted.
"The final results will be no later than 30 days after the impeachment procedure when we will submit a report to the Stari Grad Municipal Council, which will adopt a decision on the impeachment or remaining in his position," said Imamović.
On June 12 of this year, the Municipal Council of Stari Grad Sarajevo passed the Decision on initiating the impeachment of the mayor of the municipality, Ibrahim Hadžibajrić.
In the local elections held in 2008, the citizens elected Ibrahim Hadžibajrić for the first time as the mayor of Stari Grad Sarajevo Municipality. He won the election for mayor of the Stari Grad Municipality three more times: in the local elections in 2012, 2016, as well as in 2020.
Hadžibajrić was arrested on May 9 this year in the police operation "Start", which was carried out under the supervision of the acting prosecutors of the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Sarajevo Canton, police officers of the SC MoI and Police Directorate of Sarajevo Canton and in coordination with EUROPOL.
Police activities related to criminal offenses of organized crime and money laundering, as well as corrupt criminal offenses of abuse of position or authority, and receiving and giving gifts.
