FOČA, July 3 (FENA) - The Advisory Board of the Missing Persons Institute of Bosnia and Herzegovina organized a round table today in Foča on the topic 'Achievements and priorities in the process of searching for missing persons in BiH'. Challenges and difficulties in the implementation of this process were discussed, and it was once again emphasized that the key problem in finding missing persons is the lack of credible information.

The Chair of the Collegium of the Missing Persons Institute of BiH, Nikola Perišić, noted that the search for 7,608 missing persons is still underway in BiH, assessing that these are the most serious cases of war crimes where, as he said, the perpetrators tried their best to cover up the traces of war crimes.

"In the entire region, the signatory countries of the Framework Plan to address the issue of missing persons with BiH, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, and Kosovo, are searching for 11,000 missing persons, of which BiH accounts for two-thirds, or 7,600 missing persons, which unfortunately speaks of all the tragedies and sufferings of the people who happened in these areas," said Perišić.

He emphasized that a particular problem is the fact that in BiH there are 3,200 remains in memorial ossuaries and morgues, of which 1,600 bone DNA profiles have been isolated, but unfortunately, there is no match with reference samples of donated blood of families.

He announced that certain activities will be undertaken in the coming period to improve the process of searching for the missing.

"We will focus on engaging younger people who are educated in IT to include logic and analytics. Also, projects such as search dogs specialized to search for mortal remains have already started, and also through regional cooperation, we are in the process of negotiation for regional projects such as the use of geo-radar, geo-probes, drones, and the like. I must say that the main problem after 30 years and more is the lack of relevant information and the credibility of that information when it comes to the process of searching for missing persons, which is below ten percent," he said.

He noted that, when it comes to the area of Gornje Podrinje, according to the data of the Missing Persons Institute of Bosnia and Herzegovina (INO), 1,590 people are still being searched for.

The Chair of the Advisory Board of the INO of BiH, Ante Marić, noted that the goal of such gatherings is to raise awareness in the process of searching for the missing.
