SARAJEVO, May 23 (FENA) - The project 'Improving social cohesion through cooperation in the field of providing local services in Bosnia and Herzegovina" was presented today in Sarajevo.

The UN Secretary-General's Peacebuilding Fund is the financier, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) are implementers of the project together with a large number of actors.

Before the promotion, the UN Resident Coordinator in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ingrid Macdonald, told reporters that the project, worth about three million dollars, is extremely important for Bosnia and Herzegovina and that it will be implemented in nine local communities across the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska, including two cantons – Una-Sana Canton and Canton 10, with an emphasis on the local communities of Mrkonjić Grad and Ribnik.

"As part of the project, it is planned to upgrade and improve social cohesion in all municipalities where it will be implemented, and ultimately, cohesion is needed throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina," says Macdonald.

Citizens' dialogue with institutions is planned, and within that process, the presentation of opinions on social services, institutional capacities that need to be improved, etc., and primarily, to give young people the opportunity to have their voices heard more because they are increasingly leaving Bosnia and Herzegovina in search of a more promising the future.

In nine local communities, the implementation of the project will be a very significant investment that will help young people point out the burning issues of society and their needs. People with disabilities will also get such an opportunity, said the UN Resident Coordinator in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"The project is part of a total investment of ten million dollars that the UN invests in Bosnia and Herzegovina every year in peace-building projects, women's and youth activism, environmental protection, education and projects dealing with the past. The Secretary-General of the UN may opt for larger allocations from the Peace Building Fund," announced Ingrid Macdonald.

Bosanski Petrovac Municipality Mayor Mahmut Jukić told reporters in connection with today's presentation of the project that the area is multi-ethnic and that there are many examples of social cohesion, starting with the activities of the non-governmental sector or, for example, the local secondary school attended by students from both entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
