SARAJEVO, April 25 (FENA) - The Board of Directors of the Association of BH Journalists and the Helpline for Journalists request from he Ministry of Internal Affairs of the entity of Republika Srpska (RS MoI) and the FBiH Police Administration (FUP) to urgently undertake concrete investigative actions to determine who is behind cyber attacks on the media outlets Nezavisne novine, Buka magazine and internet portals of BNTV and Face TV.
These media outlets are exposed to days of hacker attacks launched with the aim of temporarily or permanently disabling their work and the publication of news and other content on these websites.
The Management Board of BH Journalists is concerned by the fact that by means of online and simultaneous attacks with tens and hundreds of thousands of individual loads, they are trying to take down the websites of the four mentioned media outlets, as well as that some of the hacker attacks come from IP addresses from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
It is also indicative that this cyber violence was launched almost simultaneously against the media which have numerous followers and a diverse audience and report critically on the ruling structures in the entity of Republika Srpska and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Association of BH Journalists stated.
The Management Board of BH Journalists reminds that DDoS attacks on the media are not merely another example of a brutal violation of media freedoms and attempts to economically destroy the media, but represent a dangerous part of organized cybercrime that the police structures in both BiH entities and their high-tech crime units must stop!
Effective investigation and sanctioning of persons and/or institutions behind cyber-attacks is a legal obligation of the police, which must also include taking other measures for the safe and smooth operation of the aforementioned media and their journalists.
