SARAJEVO, April 5 (FENA) - The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted the Information of the Ministry of Security on the situation in the area of migration in Bosnia and Herzegovina for January 2023, which will be submitted to the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In January 2023, the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs registered 1,608 illegal migrants, which is 42 percent less than in December 2022, but also significantly more compared to January 2022, when 476 of them were registered.

Migrants usually come from Afghanistan, Morocco, Cuba, Congo and Iran, with Afghans making up more than half of illegal migrants. 1,470 persons expressed their intention to apply for asylum, of which only 20 submitted applications.

In January of this year, an average of 1,010 migrants stayed in four temporary reception centers (total capacity of 4,880 places), and on 31 January 2023, 873 people stayed in these centers.

The border police of Bosnia and Herzegovina registered 760 persons in illegal crossing or attempted illegal crossing, which is 52 percent less compared to the previous month. Most of them are from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Congo, while the primary routes for entry are from Serbia and Montenegro.

The greatest burden of migratory pressure at the entrance to BiH was recorded in the area of Zvornik, Hum-Foča and Bijeljina, and 97 percent of cases of migrants were detected outside the border crossings, the Council of Ministers of BiH announced.
