SARAJEVO, January 31 (FENA) - Recently, more and more frauds in cases of online shopping have been reported to consumer associations in Bosnia and Herzegovina, confirmed to FENA president of the "TC Consumer Club" Gordana Bulić.
She explained that in the last few years, the number of complaints, especially from older people, has increased, while previously such scams were mostly reported by parents of high school students.
Bulić stated that the change in that structure occurred with the beginning of the pandemic when elderly people had limited movement, which is why many turned to online shopping.
"Frauds were not reported when it came to buying food, but they happened when buying small household appliances, tools, medicines and food supplements," specified Bulić.
She added that younger people mostly faced fraud when buying mobile phones and related equipment, electronic devices, clothes and shoes, as well as computer components.
Bulić pointed out that their association produced a leaflet on the risks of online shopping, and held regular training sessions on online shopping.
She believes that a large number of such frauds are not reported, especially when it comes to younger people, due to fear of a strict reaction from parents or ridicule from peers.
Bulić emphasized that it is particularly symptomatic that distance sellers often target the elderly, who are then blatantly deceived and induced to buy their products.
She underlined that the main problem is that BiH is one of the few countries in Europe that does not have legislation on online shopping, and the existing laws do not regulate that segment sufficiently.
