SARAJEVO, October 24 (FENA) - The establishment of an electronic system to facilitate the risk management of trade in goods among CEFTA customs administrations is a major step forward to reduce threats arising from unsecured trade.
Customs risk management is of great importance for systematically identifying risks and implementing measures necessary to facilitate trade, limit exposure to risk, and improve and simplify controls.
Customs administrations from CEFTA members have agreed at the technical level on the draft decision on establishing an electronic system to facilitate joint risk management for mutual trade in goods. They gathered in Budva, in Montenegro, to ensure a common understanding of the technical aspects of data exchange necessary for customs risk management in the region, GIZ announced.
The announcement states that the implementation of the decision will help define and implement a regional approach for joint risk management. Such improved risk management systems will improve the detection of high risks and speed up customs clearance while improving the quality of customs control.
Improved risk management requires strengthening cooperation with other border agencies to speed up border formalities for the benefit of businesses.
Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is implementing the project "Support to Regional Economic Integration" on behalf of the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
