SARAJEVO, August 30 (FENA) - The Director of the FBiH Seized Property Management Agency Vinko Jakić and the Regional Representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Constantine Palicarsky signed today in Sarajevo the Agreement on the implementation of the Action Plan for building operational capacities for the implementation of financial investigation and seizure of property.
After the signing, Jakić stated that we must resolutely oppose corruption in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and what kind of challenges the country is faced with which is best shown by the fact that in the whole of Europe only two percent of illegally acquired assets are discovered.
- That is why we must have trained personnel in the police, prosecutor's offices, and courts, and confiscation of the illegally acquired property is the best sanction and message that crime does not pay - said Jakić.
Also, he underlined that it proved to be much more effective than imposing prison sentences.
Palicarsky said that the UN Convention against Corruption attaches special importance to illegally acquired property, to which a whole chapter of the convention is dedicated.
He said that they are honored to be able to provide technical support to Bosnia and Herzegovina and the FBiH Seized Property Management Agency in order to implement that chapter of the Convention as efficiently as possible.
The action plan from the agreement covers the program period until the end of 2022 and consists of three parts that include a description of the activities, a time frame, and the institutions that will be the leading partners in the implementation of the activities.
