SARAJEVO, August 30 (FENA) - Today, in Banja Luka, the Advisory Board of the Institute for Missing Persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina will mark the International Day of Missing Persons - August 30, to remember all persons who have been registered as missing and to point out the fact that enforced disappearances were a result of a committed crime.

"This is a date of special importance in our country, bearing in mind that in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the war, about 35,000 people disappeared and that even today, 30 years after the start of the war, the search for 7,597 missing people is still ongoing," the spokeswoman of the Institute for Missing Persons of BiH Emza Fazlić told FENA.

The central event is planned for later today, with a procession from Gospodska Street to Krajina Square, where the exhibition "Where are they?" of the International Committee of the Red Cross, consisting of the names of all persons whose remains are still being sought, will be on display.

"From all parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, we want to pay tribute to the missing persons and at the same time appeal to all those who are concerned with the issue of missing persons, to the greatest extent the holders of power, that this issue must be given priority because without solving the issue of missing persons it is not possible to establish trust and build a democratic society," she stressed.

She underlined that eleven thousand persons are still listed as missing in the countries of the former Yugoslavia, and the largest number of missing persons, 70 percent of that number, are in BiH," she pointed out.

She says that almost 80 percent of missing persons have been found in our country so far.
