SARAJEVO, July 14 (FENA) - The cantonal public utility company "Rad" with nine municipalities in the Sarajevo Canton (SC) is participating in the implementation of the project "Efficient waste management system in SC".
“This implies that 1,000 containers for selective waste disposal will be installed in the Sarajevo Canton. In addition, 5,000 bins will be purchased, as well as 2,000 composters,” Director of the public company "Rad" Vera Arnautović told FENA.
She added that a recycling yard will be built in Sarajevo Canton, where citizens will be able to dispose of recyclable raw materials, electrical and electronic waste, cooling devices, bulky waste, textiles and more.
Sanja Lepić, Head of the "People in Need" Office for Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is the main implementer of the project, emphasized that infrastructure will be installed within the framework of the project, that is, 275 so-called green islands where there will be containers for separate waste collection.
“The so-called green islands are places where containers for waste separation are placed. Now in some places we have old gray containers into which mixed waste is disposed. Those green islands will be improved with green, blue and yellow containers for the disposal of plastic/metal, paper and glass. For now, they have established green islands here and there in Sarajevo Canton, but not everywhere. Because of this, through the mentioned project, we will have the establishment of new infrastructure, a media campaign and we will work on strengthening public company "Rad" so that they adopt these modern practices when disposing of waste,” explained Lepić.
In addition to the establishment of infrastructure, citizens will be informed, and citizens will be invited to contribute to the separate collection of waste.
