TIRANA, May 16 (FENA) - Bosnia and Herzegovina took over the chairmanship of the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative from Albania today at a ceremony in Tirana, which is an initiative that represents the European Union's strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian region, of which BiH is a full member.
On behalf of BiH, Deputy Foreign Minister Josip Brkić took over the chairmanship from the Albanian Deputy Foreign Minister Magi Fino. Brkić told FENA that every regional initiative helps BiH on its path to the EU, especially the one that recognizes BiH as an Adriatic, Mediterranean country, a country with an identity that needs to be strengthened in the time ahead.
He announced that the one-year presidency of BiH will be full of activities, but the focus is on youth, tourism, sustainable energy and approaching the European Union, so that universities, government institutions, chambers of commerce and all segments of society will be involved in activities that would bring BiH, Southeast Europe, i.e. the Adriatic-Ionian region, closer to the European Union through partnerships with countries that are members of the EU, as well as those that are not there yet.
