SARAJEVO, March 16 (FENA) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić reacted to the statement of the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to BiH Igor Kalabukhov that a Russian reaction will follow if BiH becomes a NATO member, citing the example of Ukraine.

“I strongly condemn the threats made by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to BiH, commenting on the possibility of Bosnia and Herzegovina becoming a member of NATO. The message of the Russian Ambassador that Russia's reaction will follow, citing the example of Ukraine over which Russia is carrying out aggression, is unequivocal, but at the same time unacceptable for BiH,” says Komšić.

He adds that Bosnia and Herzegovina's decision to join NATO can only be a decision of BiH institutions, and not a reason to attack Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“We are aware of the change in the position of the Russian Federation regarding the decisions of the institutions of BiH, which were previously respected by the Russian Federation, and that this has not been the case in the last few years. However, as the Chairman of the Presidency of BiH, I am obliged to condemn and reject the threats, which are not only threats to Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also threats to peace and stability in the Western Balkans,” said Komšić, his Office announced.
