Lovrinović with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Kaymakci

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, November 29 (FENA) - Chairman of the Joint Committee on European Integration of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiHPA) Nikola Lovrinović talked today with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Faruk Kaymakci.

At the meeting, which was also attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to BiH, Sadik Babur Girgin, the current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the European path of the two countries were discussed.

Lovrinović briefed the guest on the current situation in the country, assessing that the current political crisis is hampering the work of all government institutions, including, as he emphasized, the PABiH and its bodies.

Stressing that Bosnia and Herzegovina's European path has no alternative, Lovrinović informed Turkey's Deputy Foreign Minister that a proposal for a Declaration on obtaining BiH candidate status is in the parliamentary procedure, asking the European Parliament to support BiH's request to receive candidate status in 2021, which, as he pointed out, would relax political relations in BiH and be a significant incentive for faster implementation of reforms on BiH's European path.

Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Faruk Kaymakci stressed that he understands the problems BiH faces in the European integration process and said his country would continue to support Bosnia and Herzegovina and all other countries in the region on the European path. He also said that he believes that all countries in the region, as well as the Republic of Turkey, deserve to be members of the European Union.
