A discussion on BiH and Rwanda: Quo Vadis after genocide?

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, November 22 (FENA) - On the occasion of the 26th anniversary of the initialing of the Dayton Agreement, the Aegis Trust, a British NGO, organized an online discussion on the film "Quo Vadis, Aida?" entitled "Conversation about BiH and Rwanda: Quo Vadis after the genocide? ”

There was talk about the film itself, but also about the messages it sends. The panelists were the director of the Srebrenica Memorial Center Emir Suljagić, the executive director of the Aegis Trust Freddy Mutanguha and the state director for BiH of the Remembering Srebrenica UK organization Elmina Kulašić.

The panelists said that "Quo Vadis, Aida?", by BiH film director Jasmila Žbanić, describes the experience of numerous victims of genocide in Srebrenica after its fall into the hands of the so-called RS Army. The premiere of the film was held at the Srebrenica Memorial Center in October last year.

Panelists said the films are an important part of memorializing victims and raising awareness of the cruelty and destruction of genocide as a crime. They underlined these examples with the films "Hotel Rwanda" and "Quo Vadis, Aida?"

Denial of genocide, a phenomenon faced by survivors in BiH and Rwanda, was also a topic. The conclusion is that even the denial of genocide in both cases has a similar pattern, primarily challenging the established number of victims as well as challenging court-established facts, stated the Srebrenica Memorial Center.
