SARAJEVO, December 9 (FENA) - Science Day in the Federation of BiH is marked on December 12 in memory of the day when Vladimir Prelog was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1975.

On that occasion, the representatives of the Federal Ministry of Education and Science, academicians and professors paid tribute to the great researcher by laying flowers in front of the birthplace of the Nobel Prize winner in Sarajevo.

Assistant Minister of Science and Technology Jasmin Branković reminded that Prelog was awarded numerous recognitions, he was an honorary citizen of the city of Sarajevo, an honorary doctor of the University, a member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of BiH.

“Vladimir Prelog was connected to science, to his homeland Bosnia and Herzegovina and to his city Sarajevo, but he was a citizen of the world. That is our Nobel Prize winner,” Branković said.

Therefore, on the day when he was awarded the Nobel Prize, the Government of the Federation of BiH declared Science Day in the Federation of BiH.

Speaking about the perspective of scientists in BiH today, Branković is of the opinion that it is not good, and that very little money is allocated for scientific research, and for science in general.
