SARAJEVO, September 24 (FENA) - Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina Selmo Cikotić said after today's meeting with family members of BiH citizens from Al-Hol and Al-Roj camps in Syria that the ministry is doing everything to ensure all necessary conditions for the return and reception of BiH citizens from Syria, especially women and children.
It is stated that according to operational data, there are about 100 more people in these two camps - women and children. Despite the readiness and commitment of the BiH Ministry of Security to continue the return process that began in December last year, due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the return of these persons has been prolonged until favorable conditions are met.
Cikotić emphasized that the BiH Ministry of Security is cooperating in that area with partner countries and international organizations that have expressed their readiness to provide assistance and support to BiH institutions.
He added that the ministry carried out the process of acceptance, care and re-socialization of the first group of BiH citizens - six women and 12 children in December 2019. In that group, seven men were returned and handed over to BiH judicial institutions as participants in foreign battlefields.
Also, a comprehensive overview of the situation and status of BiH citizens in the region of Iraq and Syria was made, as well as activities that need to be undertaken in order to systematically address the problems of returnees, their acceptance and reintegration.
To that end, a working group has been established to coordinate the process of returning citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina from conflict zones, which includes representatives of relevant ministries, judicial and police agencies from all levels of government and social, health and educational institutions, BiH Ministry of Security stated.
