Komšić: It is not decent to disparage the help that comes in millions

SARAJEVO, April 22 (FENA) - BiH Presidency member Željko Komšić expressed gratitude to European Commissioner for Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi and the EU institutions for the help, after Varhelyi announced new EU assistance to Bosnia and Herzegovina today, namely the Macro-Financial Assistance package as support for a total of ten countries, including Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“First of all, I would like to thank Commissioner Varhelyi, and the European Union institutions. The assistance that will be sent is of utmost importance for Bosnia and Herzegovina in the fight against coronavirus and the economic consequences of the pandemic,” Komšić told FENA.

In his view, apart from the money needed in the economic crisis to save jobs and maintain the standard of BiH citizens, this is also very important political support for Bosnia and Herzegovina, as the EU countries are the largest donor of Bosnia and Herzegovina and extremely important foreign trade partners.

“This is an encouraging message especially before the EU Summit on the Western Balkans,” said Komšić.

BiH Presidency member also referred to a statement by Milorad Dodik, RS Presidency member who recently criticized EU accession to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and said he "wishes he would never take anything from the EU if he could".

“That is certainly not the position of the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Instead of thanking for help that has been coming from the European Union, Dodik makes inappropriate comments, while on the other hand he exaggerates the moves of others. It is not decent to disparage the help you are being given, especially since millions of marks have been given. However, such an offensive policy towards the EU that helps you, and support for totalitarian regimes, also clarifies the reasons for numerous blockades on BiH's Euro-Atlantic path,” said Komšić.
