SARAJEVO, October 4 (FENA) - The current situation in the field of demography and social policies in the Federation of BiH are some of the areas discussed today at one of the workshops related to the development of the Federation of BiH Development Strategy 2021-2027.
This integrated Strategy will set out the basic guidelines for socio-economic progress that will result in a better life for the citizens of the Federation of BiH.
The organizer of the workshops is a team of the FBiH Policy Programming Institute, with the support of the Government of the Federation of BiH.
Depopulation and aging population are the basic demographic processes of rural and urban parts of the Federation of BiH and the entire country.
According to the 2013 census, the Federation of BiH has a population of 2,219,220. A serious warning for the demographic survival of the Federation of BiH is the trend of population decline in villages, bearing in mind that villages are a major source of biological renewal.
The basic changes in the population structure are reflected in a decrease in the young population of 0-14 years, a decrease in the birth rates, a pronounced aging of the population, which is reflected in the increase in the population over 65 years of age.
An additional problem is the emigration of residents to European or other countries. Of particular concern is the departure of young educated professionals in their reproductive years.
In addition to the economic reasons that affect the emigration of the population, there is increased dissatisfaction with the overall political and social situation in which ordinary citizen find no sense of living.
The existing social protection system in the Federation of BiH is inefficient and unfair and needs comprehensive reform.
Such a system allows a large portion of the benefits to go to those who do not need it, rather than to those who need it the most.
The workshops that focus on the analysis of the situation were supported by the Integrated Development Support Project in BiH, a joint project of the UNDP and the Government of Switzerland.
