SARAJEVO, May 13 (FENA) - Deputy Director of the Foreigners Affairs Service of BiH, Mirsad Buzar stated at a thematic session of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH that the Service has registered and processed nearly 24,000 migrants last year, most of whom expressed their intention to seek asylum. Although most of them do not have documents, the lack of documents cannot prevent them from seeking international protection.
“In the first four months of this year, we have had an increase of 100 percent of migrants compared to the same period last year, because we have registered close to 6,000 of them. In the course of 2018, and 2019, the Service placed under supervision 90 migrants in the area of Una-Sana Canton because they violated the security situation in that area. At the moment, we do not have enough capacities to accommodate migrants in the Immigration Center in order to accommodate them and relocate them from BiH,” explained Buzar.
He added that the Service, despite the insufficient number of personnel, is trying to respond effectively to this challenge.
The MPs in the House of Representatives from the Una-Sana Canton initiated the thematic session dedicated to resolving the problems related to the migrant crisis, as it is the canton most affected by migration.
It is expected for the MPs to vote for the conclusions in order for the Federation of BiH to respond adequately to the problems of the migrant crisis in the area of the Una-Sana Canton.
