KUPRES, Mar 20 (FENA) - Under the latest data from the BHMAC, the Kupres is the most mine - contaminated municipality in BiH.
So far in Kupres 61 minefields or 6,768,192 square meters have been cleared of mines, where 1204 mines and explosives have been found since the Homeland War.
Under the data of the Kupres Police Station, from 1996 until now, 6 persons have been killed by mines and unexploded devices, 10 injured and a significant number of heads of cattle killed, too.
The remaining minefields amounts to 24,031,807 square meters, while the plans for further demining will be brought in line with the demining plan of the Kupres Municipality for 2018, which was submitted to the Civil Protection Administration of the Herzeg-Bosnia Canton (HBC).
The plans point out the importance of demining of the areas planned by the Kupres Municipality for wind farms as well as the agriculture land planed for leasing.
The importance of demining of the areas has been singled out in the plans for the activities in the area of tourism development, preservation of cultural and historical heritage, and economic development.
According to the BHMAC, the Armed Forces of BiH will continue this year clearing of mines since the Kupres Municipality is presented as the most mine- contaminated municipality
On the basis of mine situation estimates, demining of between 1,700,000 and 2,000,000 square meters is expected in this year.
The demining activities will continue through foreign donors, while a part of funds for this purpose should be provided in the municipal budget.
