SARAJEVO, May 3 (FENA) – The battle in which Sarajevo was defended on May 2, 1992, better known as the Battle for the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, was crucial not only to the defense of the capital but also to the country’s independence and territorial integrity. It was the first major battle for Sarajevo, and the plan of the aggressor forces—units of the former Yugoslav People’s Army, supported by paramilitary formations—was to seize the Presidency building and eliminate the state leadership.
