SARAJEVO, January 11 (FENA) - Bosnia and Herzegovina, one of Europe's most biodiverse countries, is facing increasing pressure on its rare, endemic, and medicinal plant species. Growing demand for medicinal plants and mushrooms has opened space for profit-driven exploitation, while weak oversight and inconsistent enforcement of regulations have created a deep gap between legal frameworks and realities on the ground. The consequences are borne primarily by local communities and ecosystems, while benefits accrue to individuals and export networks.
