TUZLA, August 19 (FENA) – Hungarian airline Wizz Air is returning to Tuzla Airport, reopening its base that was closed two years ago. The first Airbus A321neo will be stationed on 12 December this year, while the second is expected to arrive in March 2026, it was announced today at a press conference at the Tuzla International Airport.

The Director of Tuzla International Airport, Dževad Halilčević, the Prime Minister of Tuzla Canton, Irfan Halilagić, and the CEO of Wizz Air Hungary, Roland Tischner, emphasized that the return of the base marks a significant step forward for the airport, the economy, and passengers.

''Increased cooperation with Wizz Air is the result of a long-term commitment to developing key infrastructure. This is a new opportunity for the economy and job creation,'' said Director Halilčević.

Prime Minister Halilagić recalled that the airport went through a challenging period during the pandemic and the temporary closure of the base, but that investments by the Government of Tuzla Canton and staffing changes created the conditions for a fresh start.

Roland Tischner, CEO of Wizz Air Hungary, also revealed the company’s plans.

''We are delighted to return to Tuzla. We will station two new Airbus A321neo aircraft, the most modern narrow-body planes on the market, energy-efficient with significantly lower CO₂ and noise emissions. We expect to carry an additional 500,000 passengers from Bosnia and Herzegovina, with Tuzla as our operational hub in the country,'' Tischner said.

Starting 12 December, Wizz Air will launch four routes – to Cologne, Hamburg, Maastricht, and Malmö – followed in March by additional destinations including Berlin, Paris, and Larnaca in Cyprus. Tickets are already available, priced between 20 and 28 euros per flight.

Wizz Air currently operates 241 aircraft, with an average fleet age of only 4.5 years, one of the youngest in Europe. The company plans to expand its fleet to more than 500 aircraft by 2030 and continues to invest in improved passenger services, more flexible fares, and sustainable technologies.

With the reopening of its Tuzla base, Wizz Air becomes the largest airline in Bosnia and Herzegovina, offering nine routes from Tuzla and a total of 17 from the country.

Tischner stressed that the two Airbus A321neo planes stationed in Tuzla are the most advanced narrow-body aircraft, with 239 seats, 20 percent lower fuel consumption, and 50 percent reduced noise emissions.

''This means not only more passengers, but also less impact on the environment. In Bosnia and Herzegovina alone, we expect an additional 500,000 passengers, with Tuzla as our main operational hub,'' he added.
