SARAJEVO, June 9 (FENA) – The Government of the Federation of BiH has demonstrated that its priority is the fight against corruption and organized crime, said FBiH Prime Minister Nermin Nikšić today as a guest on the BHT1 program.

Nikšić, unfortunately, agrees with the statement that trust in the judiciary and judicial institutions has been shaken.

"I am convinced that the new composition of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC) is making efforts to restore that trust in the judiciary. And we shouldn’t be soft here — those who criticize the most, especially representatives of the international community, are also the most responsible, because they were the ones implementing the judicial reforms," he said.

He believes that no one should expect any kind of spectacle from the FBiH version of USKOK (Croatia’s Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organized Crime), regardless of what it will be called.

"USKOK in Croatia, the institution everyone looks to in the fight against corruption and crime, didn’t become successful overnight. It took them years to get to where they are today," said Nikšić.

He added that they started from a small office, while the FBiH USKOK has already met some of the necessary conditions for a special department within the prosecutor’s office to work on implementing the law on the suppression of corruption and organized crime.

"I would like to remind everyone that this law was adopted back in 2014 during the mandate of the government in which I was also the prime minister. I expect, of course, that these people will approach their work professionally and help restore trust in judicial institutions, bearing in mind that they are just one link in the whole chain. They must also be supported by a department of the Supreme Court that will prosecute these cases," he added.

He believes the FBiH Government has shown that it is committed to fighting corruption and organized crime by creating all the necessary conditions for this office to become operational.
