MOSTAR, September 19 (FENA) - I believe this will be the beginning of a new chapter in the cooperation between tourism professionals and the media, as well as a motivation for other media to engage more in collaboration with tourism, emphasized Elmir Huremović, Director of the Federal News Agency (FENA), which organized the conference titled "Media and Tourism" on Thursday in Mostar, in collaboration with the Tourism Board of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNC), in partnership with the City of Mostar, and under the auspices of the FBiH Ministry of Environment and Tourism.

He said that the message from the conference is that relevant institutions and tourism organizations need to take initiative.

"First and foremost, the message we sent today is that tourism organizations and relevant institutions should take more initiative and make the first steps so that we, speaking on behalf of the News Agency, have the opportunity to convey good news, or to produce news items based on the content that has been offered to us," emphasized Huremović.

He believes that tourism is a sector worth developing in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but it is also greatly underestimated. He called on tourism professionals to cooperate more with the media to promote local destinations together.

"In my opinion, and that of many experts in this field both locally and globally, what we lack most is adequate promotion of tourism offerings, that is, we need to showcase everything we have. If we present it as it is, it will surely lead to an increase in overnight stays and visits. We all understand how tourism can directly and indirectly impact the increase in income, living standards, the economy, and all other aspects of society," Huremović stated.

Today's conference brought a breath of fresh air to the tourism sector, and Huremović hopes it will be recognized by the tourism industry.

He also announced that FENA will continue organizing similar events, perhaps in the same format or a different one, and that it will certainly cover the area of the Federation of BiH as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The conference in Mostar gathered representatives from media agencies, tourism boards, chambers of commerce, and travel agencies from Bosnia and Herzegovina and neighboring countries.

Two panels were held as part of the conference: "Role of Media in Popularizing Tourist Destinations" and "Role of Media in Promoting Tourist Offers''.

The first panel included FENA Director Elmir Huremović, HINA Director Branka Vojvodić, Secretary General of the European Alliance of News Agencies Alex Giboi, and Deputy Director for International Business of the Italian news agency ANSA Rodolfo Cardarelli, with the panel moderated by FENA Editor-in-Chief Dejan Jazvić.

The moderator of the second panel was Gorčin Dizdar, Communications Manager at USAID Tourism. Participants included Marko Šantić, Vice President of the FBiH Chamber of Commerce, Amra Jaganjac, Director of the Tuzla City Tourism Board, Aida Terzić, CEO of Pino Nature Hotel and Relax Tours travel agency, and Marko Đuzel, Director of Mostar Airport.
