SARAJEVO, August 18 (FENA) - Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia in Bosnia and Herzegovina Roem Kono hosted a reception for dignitaries from the political, cultural and public life of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the 79th anniversary of the country's Independence Day.
Indonesia gained its independence on August 17, 1945, after several centuries of Dutch rule, therefore August 17 is very significant for the citizens of that country.
Ambassador Kono pointed out that from this year the official ceremony is held in the new capital of Nusantara, and the organizer of the ceremony is the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo.
Ambassador Kono emphasized in his statement for FENA that BiH and Indonesia have very good bilateral relations - trade exchange has improved, and exports from Indonesia to BiH have increased by 150 percent.
The number of workers from Indonesia has increased in BiH as well, and around 60 Indonesian citizens already work in the catering sector.
''The number of tourist visits to BiH and Indonesia has also increased. In recent years, the number of tourist visits has increased by four percent. Cultural cooperation is also at a high level,'' the Ambassador pointed out.
Ambassador Kono believes that bilateral relations, especially in trade, could be even better if cooperation agreements are signed. He explained that goods from Indonesia come to Bosnia and Herzegovina via a third country, and this causes an increase in product prices.
He expects that memorandums and agreements on better trade cooperation could be signed soon.
At the solemn ceremony marking the 79th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Indonesia in Sarajevo, the oath of allegiance to preserve the integrity of the country was read, and the heroes of that country were honored.
