SARAJEVO, July 4 (FENA) - Five stories of Bosniaks killed in the genocide committed in Srebrenica in July 1995 have been brought to life by an exhibition that was set up by the History Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Their stories are presented at the exhibition along with the items that belonged to them.
The exhibition titled "The Stories from Srebrenica" was organized by the Potočari Memorial Center and before Sarajevo, it was on display in Tuzla, Prijedor and Mostar.
One of the authors of the exhibition, Azir Osmanović, explained that the exhibition is the result of two projects of the Memorial Center, namely the oral history project and the project of collecting personal items of victims of the genocide in Srebrenica.
Each story has three parts. The first part tells about who that person was, where he lived and what he did before the war, the second part is dedicated to their life during the siege of Srebrenica, while the third part tells about the subject and what it meant for the victim and his family members who donated the items to the Memorial Center.
On behalf of the Potočari Memorial Center, assistant director Amra Begić Fazlić addressed the guests, stressing that a lot of work is behind this exhibition because the presented items did not just find themselves in the Memorial Center.
"Osmanović spent days in the forests around Srebrenica and entered deep caves that were difficult to access and even more difficult to exit without any equipment, in order to get to those artifacts that once belonged to our loved ones," she said.
Director of the History Museum of BiH, Elma Hašimbegović, said that this was one of those exhibitions for which the words "enjoy the exhibition" cannot be uttered, because these and all stories about the crimes committed but they must be talked about.
"It is necessary to talk about Srebrenica in various ways. The Museum has been organizing various activities during the month of July for 10 years because it is important to preserve the memory of Srebrenica," Hašimbegović added.
So far, 520 testimonies of the confessions of people who were in Srebrenica have been recorded so that future generations can get information about everything that had happened in the few fatal days of July 1995 in the "Protected Area of the United Nations" when more than 8,000 people were brutally murdered.
