SARAJEVO, June 22 (FENA) - More than 500 young people from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina, representatives of the judiciary and the non-governmental sector were involved in the 'Youth for the Rule of Law' project, in order to support the judicial reform process, the smooth functioning of the judicial system, the fight against corruption, protection of human rights and freedoms before the courts.
The results of the project were presented today at the final conference by Lara Sutović, on behalf of the "JaBiHEU" Association, Enrico Visentin, Program Manager for Judiciary and Anti-corruption at the EU Delegation to BiH, president of the Association of Women Judges in BiH Amela Mahić Samardžić, who pointed out the importance of the project "Youth for the rule of law".
Given that the fundamental values of the European Union include the rule of law and respect for human rights, which is the basis for citizens to be able to exercise their rights and freedoms, to become a member of the EU, Bosnia and Herzegovina will have to respect these values and be dedicated to their promotion.
For representatives of the judiciary, she added, the project provided an opportunity to talk with young people about the functioning of the judicial system and restore young people's trust in the judiciary.
The project is an opportunity for young people and civil society, as Visentin Enrico said, to learn about the rule of law, and to see how important it is for their daily life and common future.
"The project brought the concept of the rule of law closer to the lives of young people and enabled them to actively participate in these important processes," emphasized Visentin.
According to Mahić Samardžić, the Association of Women Judges recognized the importance of the project and responded to the call, wanting to pass on their knowledge to young people.
"Our message to young people is to continuously insist and get involved in processes that strengthen the rule of law," said Mahić Samardžić.
As part of the project, which began in January 2021, nine modules were produced, 10 panels were held with representatives of the judicial community throughout BiH and online, and a trial simulation competition was organized.
The manual "Rule of Law - LAB for young people" was created, and trial simulations were held in Banja Luka, Mostar and Sarajevo.
The project was implemented by the associations JaBiHeu and ORC Tuzla, with the financial support of the European Union in BiH.
