RIYADH, June 8 (FENA) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, expressed satisfaction with his participation in the ministerial meeting of the Global Coalition to Fight ISIL, but also with the results of the bilateral talks he had in the capital of Saudi Arabia.
"BiH has once again shown its full commitment to continue the fight against all forms of terrorism within the global coalition. We presented the concrete results of our work and everything that is happening in Bosnia and Herzegovina on this issue," Konaković told FENA.
He added that the opportunity to speak with the conference hosts, namely US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, as well as numerous other high-ranking officials from the world's most influential countries, was used in the best way.
"At the official lunch, I sat with Secretary Blinken and Minister Faisal and in about an hour of conversation we exchanged information that is very important to us. It is important to us that this information reaches the right addresses and is interpreted in the right way. Once again, we received confirmation that the United States is committed to the processes in BiH and that they are our key international partner, that they know what is happening in BiH and that they firmly stand by the sovereignty of BiH and its European and Euro-Atlantic path," said the BiH Foreign Minister.
He says that this meeting was also used to do great things for BiH and its diplomacy, which is now, as Konaković points out, strongly reaffirming and making up for some omissions from the previous period.
"I have noticed a huge space in which Bosnia and Herzegovina was not present, and then that space was filled by others who don't really love Bosnia and Herzegovina as much as we do. Attending such events is becoming our standard routine and we are really trying to keep Bosnia and Herzegovina in focus on the international stage, where it belongs," Konaković added.
Speaking about the conversation with Secretary Blinken, Konaković says that he is fully aware of everything that is happening in BiH when it comes to the global fight against terrorism and the measures we are taking to prevent all forms of terrorism and contribute to the fight against ISIL.
"There are also concrete results, and I can say with pleasure that since 2015, we have not had any recorded departure of our citizens to foreign battlefields, which confirms that some things have been done well and concretely within the limits of our capabilities.
Of course, it is impressive how much the US follows all other processes in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This can be seen from the tweets and reactions of Secretary Blinken to some events in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The fact that the US is once again committed to BiH to such an extent is encouraging, despite all the problems it has as the world's largest power," says Minister Konaković.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina announces a series of new diplomatic activities as early as next week.
"We are traveling to London, where we have a number of important conversations. Then we will go to Berlin, where we will have an official meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Annalena Baerbock, on June 16, and after that visit, there will be a joint session of the Council of Ministers of BiH and the Government of the Republic of Croatia.
Already, on June 22, I am on an official visit to Slovenia, where my colleague Tanja Fajon will be my host.
Therefore, it is the continuation of a dynamic process in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH, which we have imposed thus reaffirming BiH on the international stage. I am happy that the results of that work are already visible," concluded the BiH Foreign Minister Elmedin Konaković in an interview with FENA.
