KONJIC, June 5 (FENA) - With its rich history and interesting stories from the economy, Konjic is slowly becoming a symbol of opportunities in this region, attracting investments and sending optimistic messages for the future, which was also recognized by the Bosnian diaspora that originates from this city. Therefore, those stories about leaving the country have offered another perspective that indicates that successful people from Konjic want to invest in their region.
"Konjic is strategically located in the heart of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is located between the cities of Sarajevo and Mostar, which gives it good access to markets and infrastructure links. This convenient location facilitates business and access to other cities and regions. It has rich natural beauties, including rivers, mountains and lakes, making it an ideal destination for tourism and adventure activities.
Tourism is on the rise in the region, and Konjic offers attractions such as old bridges, fortresses and cultural heritage. This tourist attraction creates opportunities for investment in sectors such as accommodation, hospitality and adventure tourism," said Armin Alijagić, an expert on diaspora investments in Bosnia and Herzegovina and one of the representatives of the USAID project "Diaspora Invest".
As it was announced, through the activities of this Project, USAID entered into a partnership with 26 local self-government units across the country, in which it recognized the potential and readiness for a special approach to the diaspora, when it comes to connections and investment opportunities.
Alijagić claims that Konjic can make a big step forward in that field.
"Konjic offers various sectors for investment, including industry, energy, construction, the IT sector and agriculture. The city is aware of the need to diversify its economy and creates a favorable environment for investors, including incentives and support from local authorities. It has an educated and skilled workforce, which is an important resource for investors. There are also educational institutions that provide specialized programs and professional training in accordance with the needs of the labor market. Now it is important that we introduce the diaspora to what Konjic offers and tell stories about past investments," notes Alijagić.
Additionally, Konjic strives to improve the business environment and attract investors. Also, various incentive programs, investment incentives and administrative services have been established to simplify the process of investing and creating a business venture.
"Konjic recognizes the importance of engaging its diaspora and creating ties with the Bosnian diaspora. This creates opportunities for the diaspora to invest in projects in Konjic, share their knowledge and experience, and support local development. The diaspora always invests in the cities they came from. Now, with USAID, we want to work additionally on mapping our diaspora, identify where we can use the knowledge of our people abroad, bring capital, good practices and turn things in a positive direction", says Ajla Greda, director of the Agency for Economic Development "Prvi Korak" from Konjic.
In recent years, Konjic has also embraced innovation and technological progress. The city is seeing an increase in investments in the IT sector, encouraging the growth of start-ups and creating jobs for the local workforce. Considering its strategic position and professional workforce, Konjic has the potential to become a regional center for technology and innovation.
