SARAJEVO, May 31 (FENA) - At a conference dedicated to inclusive political dialogue on ways to improve the visibility and recognition of women's needs in relation to economic policies, the participants highlighted the importance of empowering women, their economic and social status, and the necessity of transformative female leadership through inclusive political dialogue.

The goal of the conference, organized by UNDP in Bosnia and Herzegovina, was to improve the implementation of legislation, as well as recommendations on how to continue in the future, through dialogue with experts, representatives of civil society organizations, governmental and non-governmental institutions.

Resident representative of UNDP in BiH Steliana Nedera said that through today's dialogue, they are trying to see how the social environment is moving, how the region is developing, considering technological achievements and the need for new skills, and what measures can help women to be more successful in the future.

"Through our entire involvement in Bosnia and Herzegovina, we must take extra care to empower women, so that they can be better integrated in the future. The first step would be to pilot additional training and retraining programs for women. In technological skills, we see great opportunities for women to enter the labor market," said Nedera.

It is important, she added, to work together with all actors of politics, economy and society, but also to improve social support for women.

The director of the BiH Agency for Gender Equality of the BiH Ministry for Human Rights and Refugees, Samra Filipović, considers it very important to work on the economic empowerment of women in BiH.

Our laws are very good, she stressed, even among the best, but law enforcement lags behind because the number of women participating in the labor market is very small, and we are the last in Europe in this regard.

"Therefore, all of us together should work more proactively on implementing affirmative measures and increasing the number of women on the labor market. First of all, we need to initiate care economy activities because we know that women are the ones who mainly take care of the family, children and the elderly, and our services are insufficient. Women do not have support to become active as the workforce," said Filipović.

There are a number of measures, she added, and the easiest as a first step is the introduction of flexible working hours, part-time work, and self-employment.

Accordingly, the Minister of Labor and Social Policy of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Adnan Delić, said that, given the fact that there are a large number of women in the bureau who fall into the difficult-to-employ category, it is necessary to adopt measures aimed at empowering women in society, that is, employing women.

"We have an idea to create a "family fund" from which the material and immaterial rights of the family, and therefore of the woman, will be drawn, which is the foundation of our family. We want to equalize the rights of women - with maternity benefits, to ensure adequate payment of alimony, and adequate child allowance. These are all measures that affect the empowerment of women in the family and in society," said Minister Delić.

Today's meeting of UNDP in Bosnia and Herzegovina was organized within the framework of the Women's Forum for Development project, and it applies the principle of "gender equality in elected positions" in order to contribute to the construction of an encouraging environment for increasing the number of women in all spheres of decision-making in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
