TUZLA, May 25 (FENA) - The families of the victims and the citizens of Tuzla paid their respects and laid wreaths and flowers at the Alley of Youth in Slana Banja for the murdered Tuzla youth at the Tuzlanska Kapija (Gate) to mark the 28th anniversary of the massacre.
On May 25, 1995, a grenade was fired from the position of the RS Army at Mount Ozren at 8:55 p.m. killing 71 young people and injuring around 140 people.
Twenty-eight years have passed since the massacre but the pain of the parents will never disappear.
It is the indignation over the non-prosecution of those responsible at the Tuzlanska Kapija that deepens the parents' wounds. They believe that Novak Đukić is not the only one to blame for the shelling of Tuzla. They also state that Novak Đukić, general of the RS Army, was sentenced to 20 years in prison, but that he went to Belgrade for alleged treatment and was never imprisoned. The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina issued an international warrant for him.
The commemorative marking of May 25 in Tuzla continues with the laying of wreaths and flowers at the Kapija Memorial, and tonight at 8:55 p.m. sirens will sound at the time when a grenade was fired from Mount Ozren, reminding of the saddest event in the history of this city.
