SARAJEVO, May 16 (FENA) – A street plaque with the name 'Ivica Osim Boulevard' was ceremonially unveiled today near the Grbavica stadium.
A plaque with the name of one of the greatest football players and football experts of BiH, the popular "Straus from Grbavica", was unveiled today by the mayor of the Novo Sarajevo Municipality Hasan Tanović, the president of the FC Željezničar Edis Kovačević and journalist Muhamed Bikić.
Mayor Tanović points out that the unveiling of the plaque was symbolically scheduled for the Day of the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo, when the Pofalići Battle was fought for the defense of the city in 1992, as a pivotal battle for the defense of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"It took a lot of effort and initiative to unveil this plaque today. This is the least we can do for Ivica Osim at this moment and we are very happy and proud about it," said Tanović.
Kovačević notes that this is an important event for the FC Željezničar, which wants to pay tribute to the image and the legacy of its greatest legend.
"This is a big day for the FC Željeničar and we finally have the Ivica Osim Boulevard. There is no greater symbolism than this, Željezničar will pay tribute to the deeds and legacy of Ivica Osim with additional activities and projects. We will not stop at this," said Kovačević.
A legend of the FC Željezničar and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ivica Osim, died in Graz on May 1, 2022.
