SARAJEVO, May 14 (FENA) – The adult education institution 'New Occupations' in Sarajevo, in cooperation with the USAID Tourism project, successfully conducted training for improving the skills of receptionists, waiters, and cooks, whose occupations are among the most sought-after on the labor market.

The 'New Occupations' Institution, as its secretary Ermin Kurtović said, competed with a project proposal within the USAID sustainable tourism development project in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The goal of the Institution is to balance supply and demand in the labor market, so they decided to apply for the project with three occupations in short supply - cook, waiter and receptionist.

“We included three categories, the unemployed, students and people employed in the tourism sector, and 133 people completed training and are ready to start working in these three areas,” Kurtović told FENA.

This is a three-day training where the participants were able to get acquainted with the basic goals of that profession and practical skills. Before that, the institution 'New Occupations' signed 11 agreements on cooperation with catering and tourist facilities in Sarajevo, which provided their employees with the opportunity to improve their skills.

The hospitality manager at Evropa Group Adnan Kuhinja said that the USAID project and the training of the necessary personnel means a lot to them in terms of improving services and maintaining the hotel's good reputation.

In his opinion, the tourism sector has largely overcome the crisis caused by the pandemic, and statistical data also indicate an increase in the number of tourists in BiH.

USAID Tourism supports BiH's efforts to develop its tourism sector and improve the competitiveness of tourist destinations.
