SARAJEVO, May 3 (FENA) - Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Bećirović, extended congratulations to journalists, journalist associations and all media employees on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day.

“Supporting the right to freedom of expression, as well as independent and responsible information to the public, I sincerely extended congratulations to journalists, journalist associations and all media employees on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day.

Freedom of the media is of crucial importance for journalists and all media employees, as well as for every democratic state because the degree of democracy of a society is judged on the basis of freedom of the media,” said Bećirović.

He points out that when some autocratic politicians are trying to take away the right to freedom of the press and assembly, it is especially important to support the freedom of the media, which is based on the freedom of expression guaranteed by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, journalists must have a safe environment to do their work freely and openly, without any pressure or threats.

The World Press Freedom Day is an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of media freedom and its fundamental principles, as well as a reminder of our joint responsibility for protecting media freedom and all media employees, Bećirović emphasized, the BiH Presidency announced.
