SARAJEVO, April 3 (FENA) - A roundtable on the topic "Gender (in)equality in the labor market in Bosnia and Herzegovina: Women's side of the story or the company's story?" was held today at the House of Human Rights in Sarajevo, on the occasion of European Equal Pay Day.

The event was organized as part of the project "Intersectoral partnership for human rights and gender equality in the labor market", which is implemented by the "Infohouse" and "Lara" foundations, and is financed by the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The project aimed to contribute directly to the reduction of discrimination against women in the labor market.

Director of the "Infohouse" foundation Dženana Alađuz said that the roundtable aims to present data and exchange experiences about the most common forms of discrimination that women face in the workplace.

"The labor market is still not sufficiently sensitized to the needs of women from vulnerable categories. Research shows that employers find it more difficult to hire women who are victims of violence, bearing in mind that the cycle of violence never ends. Employers rarely hire women who still do not have children, and there is often subtle questioning about whether the woman plans to give birth in the next two years," said Alađuz.

She noted that only one company in the FBiH has zero tolerance for sexual harassment. The company is the Sarajevo International Airport.

Lejla Hodović, a representative of the Gender Center of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasizes that there is obvious inequality in the labor market.

"Bosnia and Herzegovina is last in Europe in the segment of women's participation in the labor market, and we must all work on that. One of the mechanisms for this is the creation of a healthy working environment in accordance with the laws and the Constitution. The Government of the FBiH passed the decision on zero tolerance for sexual harassment in the workplace, while research indicates that 27 percent of women have experienced some form of sexual harassment," underlined Hodović.

She stressed that the positive practice of the FBiH Government needs to be transferred to the real sector, which will be worked on through various projects in the coming period.
