SARAJEVO, March 14 (FENA) - The International Day of Combating Islamophobia is marked on March 15, and on this occasion, the Rais of the Islamic Community (IC) in Bosnia and Herzegovina Husein effendi Kavazović said that he is following with great concern the increase in the spread of fear and hatred towards Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina, neighboring countries and in the world.
"Unfortunately, the latest research on the ground confirms this. Often some political circles, whether in power or in the opposition, use Islamophobia to win votes. By doing so, they only show their inability to solve the serious issues of their country and their society. Instead of building the state and being a good example to the citizens, they are spreading hatred and fear of Muslims," said Kavazovć.
He points out that pointing out hate speech does not mean denying freedom of expression.
"This means that we act preventively so that someone's speech does not produce discrimination and violence, which is prohibited by domestic and international law. Freedom of speech should be consistent with respect for religious sentiments. We should all together, all people of goodwill, oppose the spread of hatred and intolerance against Muslims," said Kavazović.
The fight against Islamophobia, he added, must not remain at the level of resolutions of the United Nations, but must be applied in all segments of social and political life so that future generations grow up with the values of mutual respect and appreciation of diversity, MINA reports.
