MOSTAR, March 12 (FENA) - There was an expansion of online sales channels and a 312 percent increase in the value of traffic was recorded during the coronavirus pandemic, according to the data of the first and largest survey of online sales in BiH, which was conducted by the eCommerce Association in BiH.
This association, which was founded with the aim of improving the standards of the e-commerce industry in Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasizes that the growth of online sales in our country for the year 2022 is 57 percent compared to the year 2021, and the number of transactions for the same period has increased by 62 percent.
Citizens who shop online are mostly people between the ages of 26 and 45, but the younger population between the ages of 21 and 25 showed an enviable level of knowledge about the safe use of the Internet.
Executive Director of the eCommerce Association in BiH Belma Agić said, in an interview with FENA, that compared to other countries in the region and Europe, there is still room for the development and improvement of e-commerce in BiH, which they see as an opportunity for further progress.
In 2020, the eCommerce sector in BiH recorded significant growth in the sale of online products and services, which is a consequence of the covid-19 pandemic and changing consumer habits, and this trend continued in 2021 and 2022.
What domestic legislators must work on in the future is the legal framework that treats this form of economy.
“Although we currently do not have adequate legislation and laws that regulate online trade, Bosnia and Herzegovina has a large number of active online shops, whose owners, wishing to expand their target market, have activated the online sales channel,” stresses Agić.
The popular store of BiH citizens - eKupi, which, in addition to BiH, operates in the market of Croatia, Serbia, North Macedonia and Montenegro also agrees that the growth of online sales is recorded.
Therefore, the owners of online stores in Bosnia and Herzegovina welcome the work on drafting a law on internal trade.
“The draft law on internal trade, which the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, on the proposal of the FBiH Ministry of Trade, adopted and submitted to the parliamentary procedure, is progress for the eCommerce sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina, considering that it also regulates internet sales in detail,” emphasized the Executive Director of the Association of eCommerce in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
