SARAJEVO, March 10 (FENA) - The Secretary of the Convention on the Protection of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (Convention 2003), Tim Curtis, handed over the certificate on the inscription of the "Tradition of Lipizzaner Horse Breeding" on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity at a ceremony organized by UNESCO to the permanent representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina at UNESCO, Bojana Kondić Panić.
The decision to enter the "Tradition of Lipizzaner Horse Breeding" on the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity was made in December 2022 at the 17th session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco.
This is the fifth element from Bosnia and Herzegovina on the Representative List of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity, and the first one prepared as a serial nomination, stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced.
The initiative to register the "Tradition of Lipizzaner Horse Breeding" was launched in Slovenia, and Austria, Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, Italy and Bosnia and Herzegovina jointly.
The beginnings of Lipizzaner breeding is linked to the Habsburg Monarchy, but today Lipizzaners have a special role in the tradition and life of rural areas, as part of traditional rituals and festivities, it is stated in the announcement.
