ZAGREB, March 8 (FENA) - On Wednesday, the Croatian News Agency (Hina) hosted representatives of European news agencies gathered under the EANA association (The European Alliance of News Agencies) in Zagreb, and the meeting resulted in a declaration calling for the equality of women in the management of media outlets and the association itself.

EANA was founded in 1956 and gathers 33 news agencies. Representatives of nine agencies of the association gathered in Zagreb on Wednesday, on the occasion of International Women's Day, launching a working group on the empowerment of women in media outlets and the organization itself.

Its president Clemens Pig from the Austrian agency APA said that the goal of the incumbent presidency of EANA is to strengthen the presence of women in the leadership of the association. Its leadership - the president, secretary-general and members of the supervisory board - are currently made up exclusively of men.

At the discussion of the representatives, mostly from the south and east of Europe, it was emphasized that the advocacy of women in leading positions must not only be declarative but must result in concrete results, Hina reports.

Those gathered were greeted by the Minister of Culture and Media, Nina Obuljen Koržinek, stressing that the gathering of women working in the media is "extremely important".

Director of Hina, Branka-Gabriela Vojvodić, proposed to the working group, after the discussion, a declaration on the empowerment of women in EANA, which emphasizes the commitment to the advocacy of women in the leadership of the news agencies and in the association itself.

The adopted declaration, with an emphasis on the need for greater representation of women in EANA's leadership, calls for regular exchange of experiences and networking in order to promote equality and the implementation of the United Nations Women's Empowerment Principles (WEP) in the media.
